Kickboxing is a good exercise and helps ones physical fitness. At present the most popular forms of Kickboxing which are been practiced are aerobics and cardiovascular or cardio kickboxing. More and more people are opting for these forms of exercises. As per the various studies conducted it has been found that one can loose upto 350 to 450 calories in an hour with kickboxing. It is a very good form of overall bodily exercise and helps in physical toning and shaping up of ones body. Unlike the other types of kickboxing, cardio kickboxing does not involve physical contact between the practitioners. Some trainers also make use of punch bags and jump ropes.

Kickboxing is one of the ways to reduce mental and body stress, though it sounds a bit surprising many look at this sport to ease their stress levels. It helps to bring out the anger accumulated in people. The cause of this anger can be anything considering the enhanced levels of competitions, but if this anger is not released it affects ones body and mind. Sometimes bringing out this stress may not become possible due to professional commitments or other social bonding. In such situations, kickboxing comes to the rescue without hurting anyone’s sentiments. Some people practicing kickboxing already have agreed that this is the best remedy to cope up with stress and is the time when their mind is at its best. The accuracy of actions of limbs also reduces bodily stiffness.

Women too love kickboxing as they get trained in self defense. The advantages of kickboxing are immeasurable as it consists of benefits of running, climbing and lifting weights, but its returns are more than any of these. It increases the confidence levels in women and looking at the growing crime rate against women and children this seems as a breather. Kickboxing is also beneficial as the bones which become brittle with age can be taken care of by accurate exercise. Therefore the calcium problems in women can be avoided by early kick off into kickboxing.

As stated earlier Martial Arts does not belong to any country or part of the world therefore one can figure out that there are different types of Martial Arts belonging to the various countries of the world. Though we can’t discuss all the styles but surely can get to know a few.

Karate: Karate originated in the Ryukyu Islands and Japan. These islands are now known as Okinawa. Karate literally in English means “Empty hands” and it involves hand strikes, punches, kicks, knee strikes and elbow strikes. Thus it makes use of the striking methods.

Aikido: It is a Japanese martial art, which has taken most of its techniques from Jujitsu and Kenjutsu. It teaches the practitioner to take charge of the opponent by using their energy itself and fling them away from you. It doesn’t believe in causing immense harm to the opponent.

Jujitsu: Jujitsu is based on two beliefs; “ju” stands for flexibility and “jitsu” stands for art. Thus this is an art of flexibility where one opponent uses energy of other opponent to sway him away. In order to achieve this one should be flexible enough. It involves bare hand strikes, chokes, throws and joint locks.

Kalaripayattu: This is an Indian martial art form which originated in the South Indian state of Kerala. It is considered to have originated prior to Karate and Kung-fu. Kalari stands for temple of learning and still follows the traditional methods. Synchronization of body and mind has great importance in it. It makes use of weapons like spears, daggers, and sword along with strikes, grappling and healing skills.

Gatka: Gatka a weapon based technique has its roots in Sikhism. This martial art was taught by the Rajputs to the Sikh warriors in the 16th century.

Taekwondo: Taekwondo means the art of striking with the help of hands and feet. This art is the most widely practiced art in the world. A taekwondo practitioner is trained in kicking, punching, blocking, self defense and other open hand skills. It is Korea’s national sport and also finds a place in Olympics.

Kung fu: It is a Chinese martial art form and over hundreds of kung fu styles are taught in China and around the world. It involves kicks, punches, usage of weapons with the idea of learning self defense techniques.
