Twenty20′s Cricket: Fast and Furious Game with Innovative Skills

T20 is the shortest version of the game that has revolutionised the Cricket and brings in lots of innovative skills and exceptional athleticism. It has increased the pace of the game and added the thrill and excitement like never before. Players have adopted the new ways of scoring runs at brisk pace and it’s been raining sixes and fours in almost every match that it is hard to keep the track of cricket score.  It has been received well by the audience worldwide that can be seen with full packed stadium and shooting TRP. Moreover, this version of the Cricket has led to the beginning of Cricket leagues in almost all the playing countries and popularizes it exponentially. Test Cricket has been regarded as the real test of Cricketing Skills from long time. However, when the One Day International version was introduced, the attitude of the people had changed as it brought in fresh air of fast Cricket. Similarly, T20 has taken this phenomenon to next level.

T20 requires a different set of skills without doubt and is played in different way as compared to Test and ODI version. It has diversified the way Cricket is played by introducing new style and strategies. A player does not have much time to settle down and scoring rates keep rising rapidly. Therefore, players have invented their own unique shots defying the rule book for accelerating the run rate. Player have come up with unique combination of slog sweep, reverse sweep or other shots including Jayasuriya’s sliced aerial drive backward of point or Dilshan’s “ramp” over his own head. However, the basic techniques for scoring the runs still remain the same as Batsman need to play his shots to score the runs and bowler need to keep length and line in mind.

Twenty20 was started as a marketing effort by Cricketing authority for reviving a failing interest in Cricket and in bid to attract huge crowds including a new audience. They realised that it is hard to spend five days for Test Cricket and a complete day to watch ODI. So they came up with shortened version of the game that can offer entertainment for an evening out. It has led to the remarkable popularity of the game with explosive hitting and added excitement. One cannot forget the power hitting by Yuvraj Singh that included six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad. India had won the T20 World Cup and riding on the marketing opportunities started the Indian Premier League that has changed the entire facet of the game with introduction of Cricketainment (Cricket plus entertainment).
